Wallace Morrod of Corfe Mullen had a little help to celebrate his 90th birthday - from the whole of Rushcombe First School.
Wallace is a voluntary classroom helper at the school, assisting with subjects like woodwork - he has made puppets and nesting boxes for the school’s woodland area - writing, numeracy, sewing and art.
At a special assembly held to honour his birthday, children from each school year presented him with paintings, poems and a special birthday cake with candles.
One child wrote: “Wallace is a friendly chap, he is always happy to help and always smiling.”
“He has a big Rushcombe jumper and there’s always a twinkle in his eye. Now his birthday has come, he’s 90 years of age, it’s time to celebrate - he still likes a good laugh!”
Headteacher Sue Swift said: “Wallace is a highly-valued member of our school team and has been working alongside the staff and children for over 15 years. All Rushcombe pupils past and present have fond memories of him.”
Wallace previously worked in the Fire Service and was awarded the MBE in 1973 for a particularly difficult rescue he made.
During World War 2 he was in the Royal Tank Corp and was mentioned in despatches.
When asked how much longer he would work at the school, he said: “As long as I can.”
