Rushcombe School’s new outdoor classroom |
Schoolchildren in Corfe Mullen are having lessons in the open air thanks to a new outdoor classroom installed in the grounds.
The wooden structure is used for a variety of purposes, including storytelling, music lessons, observational artwork and environmental science, and forms a base for exploring the school grounds and orienteering.
Head teacher Sue Swift said: “As a useful working space it lends itself to all sorts of opportunities. We are so fortunate with our grounds that it’s good to get outside more often and use them.”
The outdoor classroom seats 36 pupils and staff and was built with funds raised by parents, family and friends during the summer fete.
Rushcombe has also built a new brick extension to its Year 4 area to provide increased working space.
