We are all concerned with the well being of the children, and if any child is taken ill or has an accident during the school day, the parents will be notified. Please ensure that the school has an emergency telephone number at which either parent or named person can be contacted. Please notify us of any change of telephone number or contact name.  Our teaching assistants are qualified First Aiders.

For all absences the school requires notification by letter or phone call and we ask that you contact the school office on the morning of the first day of absence.  If your child is unwell and suffers from sickness or diarrhoea, please give them 48 hours in which to recover as recommended by the Dorset County Medical Officers.  Absences not covered by a telephone call or a letter will be recorded as ‘unauthorised’.

In accordance with Dorset LA guidelines, medicines should only be brought to school if they have been prescribed by a doctor and if the medicine needs to be taken four or more times a day.  Medicines that only need to be taken three times a day can be taken before school, after school and in the evening.  Please note that non-prescribed medicines will not normally be administered to any children during the school day.

If prescribed medication does need to be administered during the school day, we request that parents come to school to give their child the medicine.  In exceptional circumstances, when this is not possible, a form requesting school staff to supervise the administration of any medication to a child must be completed.  This form is available from the school office on request.  All medicines should be provided to school in the original container as dispensed by a pharmacist and include the prescriber’s instructions for administration and dosage.  Arrangements for children on long term medication can be made through the school office.

All children should be accompanied to and from school by a responsible person.  All children will need to be collected from their classroom.  If you will not be collecting your child from school, please notify your child’s class teacher, preferably in writing, of the person who will be collecting them that day.  If you will be allowing another person to collect your child on a fairly regular basis, please also put this in writing.  Further confirmation by telephone will then not be required.

The designated Safeguarding Lead for Child Protection is our Headteacher Mrs Caroline Mahon and the Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mr Gavin White. Our first priority is your child’s welfare and therefore there may be occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies before we contact you. The Dorset Safeguarding Children Board has determined the procedures we follow. If you want to know more about these procedures, please speak to the Headteacher.  (A link to the Dorset Safeguarding Children Board can be found below.)
